THE ice, snow and rain gave way to brilliant sunshine last Sunday in Nidderdale, where the Wetherby Motor Club staged the fifth event in the Yorkshire Centre championships series at Kingstone Farm, Fellbeck.
Overnight frost did not trouble the trials course planners, who plotted 14 sections to test more than 100 riders.
The scores in all three adult classes were exactly right. James Lampkin won the championship class from cousin Dan Hemingway and Danny Gamble.
Peter Sharp won clubman A, while Neil Gaunt won clubman B, making the result a Beta benefit.
COOKRIDGE trials rider James Dabill won both events in the opening round of the Keedwell British Trials Championship at Bootle last Saturday and Sunday.
Only Ipswich contender Jack Sheppard got close to Dabill on Sunday, with Jack Price level on 19 penalties. Michael Brown took fourth place, just three penalties behind Price.
Birstall motorcycle instructor Dan Thorpe won both expert events, while Jack Peace dominated the youth class on both days.
LAST Saturday afternoon saw Stanley Trials Club head to Butsfield Quarry after their attempt to run an event at the garden centre fell victim to heavy rain.
A field of 47 riders competed at the popular course, with a mixture of weather throughout the day.
Colin Ward had no problems with the expert course with another penalty-free ride, but he had to work hard with Lewis Peart just behind on one mark, lost in the last section.
Dale Whittaker and John Bennet weren't that far behind after both had five marks throughout the day.
Just two contested the green course, which produced a resounding win for Jason Scott, who ended his day on three to finish well ahead of Josh Fenton.
Getting in some last minute Pre 65 practice was Kevin Chapman, who piloted his Trifield round the clubman course for five, half that of runner-up Rob Atkinson, with Vicky Holmes finishing third on 17. Her biggest problem was section one, which took seven of her total.
David Braithwaite turned out on his Beamish Suzuki and, with just a single mark lost, took the easy course win ahead of David Kettergham and Chris Church, who dropped two and three respectively.
WEARDALE and District Motor Club headed out above the Wear Valley last Sunday for their trial at East Harthope, where a challenging course of 10 sections was set out for the fine entry of 62 riders.
Michael Phillipson had to make sure he took the expert course victory as his dad Martin was busy wrapping up the clubman route, but it wasn't as simple as it might have been with Carl Shaw making sure Michael had to work hard for his win.
Phillipson junior made only one real error, a five in section eight as he stalled his engine. Shaw dropped three here and third-placed Lewis Peart escaped with just two, but neither could match the rest of the winner's performance around the course.
Ian Stephen was in a class of his own on the green course, with a mere three marks lost. Gareth Martin finished second, albeit a full 24 marks behind Stephen, while Dave Humble finished in third spot on 34.
Martin Phillipson kept it in the family with a clubman class win, finishing with four marks fewer than Adam Lynam, who was a further five ahead of Trevor Newton. Just about every section took marks, with the winner's marks evenly spread around the course.
Rob Lowery dropped all his six marks in section nine, enough to get the better of Rob Gaul and Paul Pulman on the easy course.
