YORKSHIRE DALES NATIONAL PARK AUTHORITY
(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF PEDESTRIANS) (Footpath No. 28 (part) and Footpath No. 31 (part), Muker) ORDER 2013 No. 5 Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 - Section 14(1) (as amended)

Notice is hereby given that the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make an Order, the effect of which will be to prohibit any pedestrian from proceeding along part of Footpath No. 28 from GR SD 9140 9806 for approximately 359 metres to GR SD 9173 9793 and part of Footpath No. 31 from the point of closure at GR SD 9152 9794 for approximately 148 metres to the point of closure at GR SD 9167 9794 in the Parish of Muker, in the district of Richmondshire from 29 August, 2013 until 13 February, 2014 inclusive.
The closure will be put into effect when necessary by means of the erection of notices and signs. It is envisaged that the works will be undertaken within six months.
The Order is necessary because works are proposed to be executed on or near the footpaths by Morrison Utility Services on behalf of Yorkshire Water to replace the water main between the village of Thwaite and hamlet of West Calvert Houses.
The alternative routes to be used during the closure period will be as follows:-For Footpath No. 28
From the point of closure at GR SD 9140 9806, head generally north-westerly across several meadows for approx. 730 metres to a stone bridleway at SD 9102 9866. Head south easterly along the bridleway to where it becomes a surfaced road at SD 9128 9834. Continue east-south-east for approx. 1 km to the junction with the footpath at SD 9224 9810. Follow the footpath east- south-east for approx. 300 metres to West Calvert Houses. At GR SD 9250 9797 follow the footpath westerly for 780 metres to the point of closure at GR SD 9173 9793 and return.
For Footpath No. 31
From the point of closure at GR SD 9152 9794, bear west-north-west along the footpath for approx. 220 metres to the River Swale at SD 9152 9794. Cross the river (no dry crossing) to a field boundary at SD 9131 9802, from here follow the footpath west, then south-west across meadows for approx. 250 metres to a field gate and continue west for approx. 43 metres into Muker Village. Once on tarmac, turn north to find a footpath at GR SD 9101 9796, follow the flagged footpath north for approx. 710 metres to the river. Head east along the riverside footpath for approx. 75 metres to the timber footbridge at SD 9102 9859. Cross the bridge to the east bank and follow some steps, north up the hillside to the stone bridleway. From here follow the alternative route as for Footpath No. 28 from GR SD 9102 9866 to its point of closure at SD 9173 9793 and return.
