North Yorkshire Fairlawne Estate have applied to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for consent under section 38 of the Commons Act 2006 to carry out restricted works on Walden Common. The Planning Inspectorate will decide the application on behalf of the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. The proposed works are on South Walden Moor. Approximately 315 hectares will enclosed by fencing. Approximately 1500 metres of stock fencing has been erected for the benefit of the moorland habitat and in accordance with the Higher Level Stewardship Agreement on the area. The fencing to be located at the south east end of South Walden Moor and encompass stock net with a single top strand, field gates, stiles and bird strike markers. A copy of the application form and accompanying documents can be inspected at Carter Jonas’ office in Harrogate during normal office hours until 19 April 2014.
