DARLINGTON BOROUGH COUNCIL

DARLINGTON BOROUGH COUNCIL
PLANNING (LISTED BUILDINGS AND CONSERVATION AREAS) ACT 1990,
SECTION 69 PARKGATE CONSERVATION AREA
Notice is hereby given that Darlington Borough Council, in pursuance of its powers under section 69 of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990, has determined that the area of Parkgate described in the Schedule hereto as land between St Cuthberfs Way and Brunswick Street, south along Borough Road to Parkgate and then east and finishing at St John's Church on the corner of Neasham Road and Yarm Road is of special historical or architectural interest, the character and appearance ofwhichitisdesirabletoconserveorenhanceandhaveaccordingly designated it as a Conservation Area.
AplanshowingtheboundaryoftheConservationAreaisondepositatDarlington Borough Council and may be inspected at anytime during office hours.
The principal effects of this area being designated a Conservation Area are as follows:
1) TheCouncil isunderadutytoprepareproposalstoensurethe preservationorenhancementofaConservationArea.

2) Consent must be obtained from the Council for the demolition of any building in a Conservation Area.

3) Consent must be obtained from the Council to cut, top, lop, uproot, wilfullydamageorwilfullydestroyanytreewithintheboundariesofa Conservation Area.

4) Six weeks' notice must be given to the Council before works are carried outtoanytreeinaConservationArea.

5) Special publicity must be given to planning applications for development | in as Conservation Area.

6) In carrying out any functions under the planning Acts (and, in particular, in determining applications for planning permission and listed building consent) the Council and the Secretary of State are required to take intoaccountthedesirabilityofpreservingorenhancingthecharacteror appearance ofa Conservation Area.
