Birkdale Common, Richmondshire, North Yorkshire

Birkdale Common, Richmondshire, North Yorkshire

The North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Partnership’s Staff Unit has applied to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for consent under section 38 of the Commons Act 2006 to carry out restricted works on Birkdale Common. The Planning Inspectorate will decide the application on behalf of the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. The proposed works will involve laying stone flags over approximately 200 meters of damaged peat bog. This will cover approximately 200 square meters on a linear path. This will prevent the eroding peat area becoming larger and also give walkers a stable surface to walk on. The works will be located south of Nine Standards Rigg, on Wainwright’s Coast to Coast route. Grid reference NY 8271 0577. A copy of the application form and map showing the proposed works can be inspected at the North Pennines AONB Partnership’s Office, Weardale Business Centre, Stanhope, DL13 2UY. Between the hours of 10am and 4pm weekdays (not public holidays) until Friday 25th November. A copy of the application form and accompanying documents may be obtained by writing to the address above. Any objections or representations should be sent in writing ON or BEFORE that date to the Planning Inspectorate, Commons Team at 3F Temple Quay House, Temple Quay, Bristol, BS01 6PN or commonlandcasework@pins.gsi.gov.uk Representation sent to the Planning Inspectorate cannot be treated as confidential. They will be copied to the applicant and possibly to other interested parties. North Pennines AONB Partnership, 1 Martin Street, DL13 2UY. 28th October 2016
