ROBSON Joyce Elizabeth Keith and Hilary are sad to announce the death of their mother, Joyce Robson, at age 94 on November 19, 2023, in West Kelowna, Canada. Joyce spent many years in Heighington and Hurworth where she taught at Hurworth Primary. Teaching wasn't her first calling, but she enjoyed the interactions with the children she taught. She was a talented artist, getting much pleasure from painting, and once shocked her teenage children with an expressive sculpture of a nude woman chained to a rock. Her quiet demeanour hid a wry sense of humour, and though she didn't make many jokes she laughed readily at funny stories told by others. Joyce's life touched many others and we are comforted in knowing that we are joined by our family and her friends in mourning her passing.

One of the highlights of my week as a 10 year old was the weekly afternoon slot when Mrs Robson would bring to life the stories she read.
I got to know her a little better as Keith's mum in subsequent years where she was always welcoming to the itinerant teenagers who appeared on her doorstep - though I don't recall seeing the sculpture of the nude chained to a rock.
My sincere condolences to Keith and Hilary.
