PHOTOGRAPHER Richard Ross and painter Carol Tyler have joined forces for an exhibition, Random Connections, at Herriot’s Gallery in Hawes.

As the title suggests, there are various random and unintentional connections within their subject matter, format and approach to their work.

Ross is attracted to the formal designs as well as traditional landscapes. Many of his photographs show strong and sometimes unexpected patterns.

Tyler, a minimalist at heart, is drawn to patina, traces and remains. She distresses, layers and repaints images until she has dug out the content she is seeking. Her paintings are the result of a winter-long fascination with ruined abbeys and monasteries in North Yorkshire.

The exhibition opens today and runs until November 16. The gallery is open daily, except Wednesdays, until November 4 thereafter on Tuesdays and at weekends, 10am-4pm. For details, contact Info@herriotsinhawes.co.uk or 01969-667536.
