THE award-winning York Handmade Brick Company is to feature in a Channel 4 history series.

Employees of the company, based at Alne, near Easingwold, will be in the fourth programme of How Britain Worked on Sunday, November 11, at 8pm.

The series started last Sunday and each episode involves presenter Guy Martin, British motorcycle racer and lorry mechanic, helping a team of volunteers to restore an iconic machine or building from Britain’s industrial past.

York Handmade’s skilled workers help recreate the Victorian brick-making process in the episode entitled Coal.

Guy Armitage, from the company, said: “We were very honoured to be part of a programme dedicated to Britain’s heritage and extremely proud that the work at our factory was chosen to shed light on Britain’s master craftsmen of the past.

“We believe strongly that we are part of a proud tradition of British brick-making, which has played a significant part in our island’s history.
