The Fashion Revolution, The Garden Rooms, Tennants, Leyburn, starts on Saturday
Turn back the clock with this new exhibition The Fashion Revolution: Vintage Fashion and Design from the 60’s and 70’s, culminating with a specialist auction of vintage costume, textiles, jewellery & design predominantly from the 1960s and 1970s on Saturday, May 9, at 10.30am. The 1960s and 1970s marked a time of enormous social and cultural change; from the exuberance of the swinging sixties with its miniskirts and psychedelic prints, to the grittier, anarchic years of the seventies with glam rock jumpsuits and flares, the exhibition will explore the evolution of fashion through these tumultuous decades. The exhibition and sale will be based around two outstanding private collections of costume from the era; the two collections form a fascinating comparison between high fashion, and high street fashion. The former collection comprises over 50 pieces by the legendary British designer Jean Muir, and form a counterpoint to the dizzying array of high street and cult costume from the private wardrobe of self-confessed fashion addict Audrey Watson. Runs until May 8. 01969-621146.
