THE North-East and Yorkshire’s top fish and chip shops have been announced by the 2017 National Fish & Chip Awards.
The recommended takeaways, as declared by the ‘Oscars’ of the fish frying industry are: Fish and Chips at 149, in Barnard Castle, County Durham; Pantrini’s Fish and Chips, in Whitley Bay, Tyne and Wear; Pantrini’s Fish and Chips, in Whitley Lodge Shopping Centre, Whitley Bay; Miller’s Fish and Chips, in Haxby, North Yorkshire; Whitby’s Restaurant & Takeaway, in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, and Whiteheads Fish and Chips in Hornsea, East Yorkshire.
Shortlisted as part of the awards, and within a wider UK shortlist, the shops will now compete for the national accolade of Independent Takeaway Fish and Chip Shop of the Year, which would claim the title of “Best Fish And Chip Shop” in the UK.
Over the coming weeks, the shops will be subjected to further judging as they receive mystery shopping assessments and the winner will be announced in January.
