CRICKET star Steve Harmison has launched a celebrity cricket match to take place in the North-East.

The second leg of the Princes Trust Challenge Trophy was unveiled Durham County Cricket Club in Chester-le-Street yesterday. (thur) It sees the North and South of the region go head-to-head under the colours of the team presidents, His Grace, The Duke of Northumberland and The Right Honourable Earl of Durham, Lord Durham.

Jonathan Edwards CBE is the coach for The Duke's Team and Steve Cram MBE is working with The Earl of Durham's Team.

Under their guidance, Durham and England cricketers Steve Harmison and Paul Collingwood will be team captains for the next event, for the Duke and the Earl respectively.

It is hoped Harmison will play on the day, but Collingwood's overseas commitments make him non-playing captain for the event.

The Twenty20 cricket match at the Riverside ground, on September 2, will involve two teams of 11 celebrities playing for two one-and-a-half hour innings.

Already confirmed participants include ex-Newcastle United player Peter Beardsley, the majority of ITV Tyne Tees' sports desk including presenters Andy Kerr Simon O'Rourke, Ian Payne and Chris Ford, Falcons rugby player James Grindal and boxer Glen McCrory.

Tickets cost £25 for a family ticket of four, £10 for an individual adult ticket and £5 for children under 16 years old.

Durham County Cricket Club members are entitled to a discount of 6 for an adult ticket and 4 for a child ticket for the day's play. The gates open to the public at noon and the match starts at 2pm.
