Free cinema
VOLUNTEER-run cinema the Ritz in Thirsk is offering film fans a chance to watch a film for free on Sunday, September 30 as part of National Lottery Cinema Day. Audience members simply need to show a Lotto ticket for draws between September 26 and 29 to receive a free cinema ticket for Sunday evening’s film The Children Act. Tickets are only available on the evening from the Ritz box office and are on a first come, first served basis. Over 16s only.
Sport memory
THE Sporting Memories Foundation has teamed up with York City Football Club Foundation to launch a new weekly group in Easingwold. The weekly sessions are open to anyone to enjoy sharing memories of sport, looking at images of sporting heroes and enjoying memorabilia. Easingwold’s weekly group runs on Thursdays at 10.30am till noon at Springhill Court, Manor Road.
Road repairs
RESURFACING is scheduled to begin on the road over Skipton on Swale Bridge on September 24. The repairs are expected to take five days and during that time the road will be closed to all traffic. Pedestrian access will be maintained, as will access to properties within the closure area. Working hours will be between 8am and 5pm.
Housing forum
PRIVATE landlords, estate agents and any other organisations with an interest in private sector housing are being urged to attend a landlord’s forum next week. Organised by Hambleton District Council, the event takes place on Wednesday, September 19 at Evolution Business Centre in Northallerton at 1.30pm. There will be a range of guest speakers and district council officers will offer advice on environmental health issues and housing options advice.
History talk
THIRLBY Local History Group will host a talk and film show with Isobel Stirk on ‘The Bronte Family’. It takes place on Monday, September 17 at Thirlby Village Hall at 7.30pm and entry is £3.
