A CONVERSION of a Grade II listed building into a holiday cottage designed around the needs of disabled people has won an award.
The project at The Dairy, Eastburn Farmhouse in Leyburn, was awarded the title of Best Inclusive Building at the LABC Building Excellence Awards Grand Finals – one of the most recognised events on the building industry’s calendar.
The project involved the extension, conversion and adaptation of an existing building in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
Judges praised the building's flexible room layouts and its 'non clinical' yet fully accessible feel.
Owners Diane and Andrew Howarth, said it was the first holiday accommodation in the Dales to meet Visit England's National Accessibility Scheme standards and delivered 'five star' luxury for all visitors.
