POLICE are appealing for dashcam footage or witnesses after two motorcyclists were killed in a crash on the outskirts of Masham.
The men died a head on crash at 11.50am on Sunday on the A6108 just outside Masham.
Police said the incident involved a blue BMW R1200RT motorcycle travelling along the road from Leyburn towards Masham and a red Moto Guzzi motorbike travelling the opposite direction towards Leyburn. The two bikes appear to have collided in the road just outside the Marfield Nature Reserve, at Marfield Quarry, which is just over a mile from Masham town centre.
The riders, a 57-year-old man and a 59-year-old man, both from North Yorkshire were pronounced dead at the scene.
The emergency services responded in strength with police, fire and ambulance crews and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance on site for some time. Local diversions were in place as the road was closed for several hours.
Investigations are now underway to determine the cause of the crash and the North Yorkshire coroner has been informed. The incident is being investigated by specialist officers who are also supporting the families of both men.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: “If you witnessed or have dashcam footage of the collision or either vehicle driving along the A6108 prior to the accident , or have any other information which could help establish the full circumstances of this investigation, please call 101.”
