BEDALE Sports Club and Community Centre's new cricket nets were a victim of vandals twice in a few days.
The nets were opened last year by Yorkshire County Cricket Club batting coach, Paul Grayson.
Bedale Cricket Club secretary Paul Croft said: "Two pieces of the new netting, about four metres square were snipped off at night, which I can only assume is for a gardener who wants some plant protection against birds. There can no other reason and it appears the netting was taken to order and for a specific purpose."
Cricket club member, Sean Ellison of AVE Aerials, has now fitted four CCTV cameras at the clubhouse with one high-definition, night vision camera, pointing directly at the cricket nets to deter any further thefts. Sean said: "My family play cricket at Bedale and I know how hard the committee work to raise funds for the new nets, so I was delighted to help in providing this security system."
