POLICE in Northallerton are investigating several thefts of bicycles, which were secured with locks at the time.

The incidents took place on the following dates and times:

  • On Tuesday, September 7 between 6.15pm and 9.20pm, a black and red Giant bike was stolen from Hambleton Leisure Centre
  • On Wednesday, September 8 between 9.45pm and 10.45pm, a silver Carrera was stolen from Hambleton Leisure Centre
  • On Monday, September 13 at about 8.45pm, two bikes were stolen from a property on Boroughbridge Road, Romanby

Between 6pm on Monday, September 13 and 9am the next day, a light grey electric assist bike was stolen from Tesco carpark, Northallerton

Anyone with any information, who saw any suspicious activity in the areas involved, or who has CCTV is urged to contact police immediately on 101, quoting incident number 12210201577.

Officers are urging anyone who has bikes to ensure they are secured when left with a good quality lock, and issued the following crime prevention advice:

Ideally, use two secure-rated locks for maximum security

Lock both wheels and the frame (or wheel and frame with one lock)

Always lock the frame to a solid object such as a cycle stand

Two types of lock (chain/cable and D-lock are harder to break)

Remove all your cycle accessories every time you leave it unattended

Do not leave your cycle insecure/unattended at any time

Always leave your cycle in a highly visible place
