THE annual club championships made a welcome return for members of Northallerton Tennis Club this season after last year’s break.
Despite there being no finals’ day, all competitions were completed with varying levels of spectator support. There was a good level of entries in most of the categories and the results were as follows:
Men’s singles: Matthew Midgley bt Ralph Windwood in a three-hour long battle. 4-6, 6-4, 6-2
Ladies’ singles: Margaret Fenwick bt Helen Coulthard. 6-0, 6-1
Men’s doubles: Matthew Midgley and Andy Holt bt Ralph Windwood and Tim Piper. 6-4, 7-5
Ladies’ doubles: Helen Coulthard and Margaret Fenwick bt Barbara Charlton and Lyn Thompson. 6-2, 6-2
Mixed doubles: Graham Iveson and Margaret Fenwick bt Matthew Midgley and Helen Coulthard. 6-0, 6-1
Veterans’ mixed: John Topham and Barbara Charlton bt Richard Owens and Debbie Pearson. 6-2, 6-0
Men’s plate: This was a match between two new members, Josh Barratt bt Joe Cotton. 6-1, 4-6, 6-4
Girls’ singles: Lucy Watts bt Alisha Brown. 6-1, 6-2
