IT was a great day out in the sunshine for Allerton Junior Athletics Club on Sunday, October 10.
The Redcar Running Festival involved numerous races to suit all running abilities. A 2km run, the 5km Beacon run, 10km Zetland Run and the Redcar half marathon meant there was something to suit all ages and abilities. All the races took place in Redcar and followed the coastal route along the seafront, finishing in Zetland Park.
A good set of results for the young team meant that Jake Holmes finished in fifth place in a time of 07:53, Enna Carrick shortly after in seventh position in 08:05, Isabelle Smith in ninth place with a time of 08:54, Maddie Short following in 11th place in 09:10 and Megan Burnham finishing in 13th with a time of 09:28.
There was strong running in the 5km race too with Tristan Baker finishing in 11th with a time of 19.23 and club treasurer Matt Burke finishing closely behind him in 13th place in a time of 19.47.
The first round of the English Schools Cross Country Cup was held on October 14 at Ripon Grammar School. Great performances from the squad against tough competition from all over the county provided some impressive results.
Ella Tadd came second in the junior girls race with a time of 11:01. In the junior boys race Henry Kirkbride finished in fifth in 10:10 and Josh Kitching also made the top ten with a time of 11:03. Libby Acton finished in sixth position in 11:10 and Amelie Hand came in 16th place in a time of 12:27.
