MODERN day troubadours Chris Green and Sophie Matthews return to Swaledale just before Christmas, bringing their unique brand of wit and humour to bear on the festive season. Their new show, Midwinter Revels, features Christmas carols, winter folk songs, toe-tapping tunes and a plethora of weird and wonderful old instruments.

Chris began playing guitar at the age of eight and now plays most things with fretted strings or keys. As well as composing he works in a wide range of genres and is a regular performer at Shakespeare’s Globe as well as appearing as a musician in the recent BBC adaptation of Poldark. Sophie is one of the foremost players of the English border bagpipes in the UK and also plays a variety of early woodwind instruments such as shawm, rauschpfeife and recorder as well as the rare baroque musette, an 18th century French bagpipe similar to the Northumbrian smallpipes.

The concert is in Reeth Memorial Hall on Friday, December 17. Tickets are £14 in advance (£16 on the door) and under 16s are half price; on sale at Reeth Post Office or contact John Little 01748-884759, email: memorialhall@swaledale.co.uk. Proceeds are in aid of hall funds. Doors open at 7.30pm for an 8pm start.
