Guisborough DMC Boxing Day Fancy Dress Trial at Charltons, Guisborough. Sunday, Dec 26
KIRKBYMOORSIDE'S Jack Peace kept it tight on Sunday to win Guisborough DMC's Annual Fancy Dress Trial on one mark lost. Skelton's Tom Affleck had to settle for second with Ripon's Aldis Blacker third.
The three-lap ten-section course gave the 80 riders a good work-out after Christmas Day and the difficult seventh section proved the decider in the expert class. A steep bankside with treacherous roots was where Peace lost his solitary mark with Affleck losing all his marks on this one. The second hazard proved a stopper for Intermediates, apart from Yarm rider, Russ Rooksby who breezed through for just five points lost.
Liam Smith clinched the Clubman A class win from Guisborough's Jack Walker after Walker let it slip away on the very last section. Smith's ride of just two lost was only bettered by Luke Jackson, from Guisborough, who produced the best ride of the day, with a loss of one.
Paul Nelson proved too consistent in Clubman B class. The veteran Glaisdale rider made it look easy. It wasn't. Martin Goodison, Mark Nixon, Phil Manton all had good rides but never matched his consistency, Nelson winning by a margin of ten marks from Martin Goodison. A close battle developed for Twin shock honours between the Fantic two-stroke of Mark Butler and the rasping BSA of Dave Bell, Butler stealing it by one mark.
