Eboracum Motor Club. Luxembourg Trophy Trial, Wath Quarry, Hovingham
IT was a great start to 2022 for Callum Williamson and Elliot Laws, as the two young riders competed for the Luxembourg Trophy at Eboracum Motor Club’s Wath Quarry trial on New Year’s Day.
They lost one mark each on the second section to finish equal, with Ripon's Aldis Blacker a mark further back.
A terrific entry, well over 100 riders, tackled a three-lap, 12-section course around this predominantly rocky venue and the consistency of the in-form Liam Smith snatched him another win in the Clubman A class, on only one mark lost, with Henry Richardson and the fast-improving Chris McDougall chasing to finish in that order with a score of four and six.
A slightly easier Clubman B course gave riders a feeling of making vast improvements in the sport as no less than eight riders remained clean.
The unlucky ones to finish next on one mark lost were Jonathan Wray and Edward Wainwright, while Richmond’s Chris Dale suffered on two. The only Twin Shock to go clear was the experienced Andrew Coulson. Redcar's Jeremy Saffin needed one on the ninth, and Darley’s Michael Platts was desperately unlucky to lose out with a five, his only loss, on section seven.

Wetherby Motor Club axe trial
Sheet ice on the access track to Cockhill Mines on Saturday ruled out the following day's Filtrate Trophy Trial, writes Barry Robinson.
The one mile descent down to the lead mine workings was one vast skating rink flanked by deep moorland slopes. Wetherby officials decided that the ice would not melt sufficiently to ensure safe access, and more importantly – exit:
Originally the event was scheduled to take place at Bayliss Gap Wood high above Bewerley but the terrain was waterlogged. No new date has been issued.
