FOOD and drink businesses in Hambleton and Richmondshire are being urged to enter the Flavours of Herriot Country Awards, as the deadline for entries approaches.

After a Covid-enforced absence, the event is returning for 2022 to celebrate the best of food and drink businesses in Herriot Country.

The 2022 awards will be held on Monday, May 9, at Solberge Hall, near Northallerton. Elly Fiorentini, BBC Radio York presenter, will be hosting and presenting the awards, which will feature 12 categories, offering an ideal opportunity for businesses to be recognised for their achievements over the past year. The closing date has been extended to midnight on Monday, February 21.

Irene Myers, chair of the awards, said: “We have been impressed with the number and quality of the entries that we have received so far. But time is marching on, and we don’t want you to miss out on entering these prestigious and highly respected awards, and the deadline is not far away. We appreciate how challenging the last couple of years have been for everyone, which is why the Flavours of Herriot Country Awards are even more important for you to enter this year.

“We want to recognise all that you’ve done, and hear how you’ve risen to the challenges, and how you’ve survived these difficult times. Tell us about how you might have diversified, maybe helped feed the community, delivered meals, or what other things you might have done to help you survive, and make it through these very tough times, while still running your business, against the odds.

“And please, if you know of, or have a talented young chef, encourage and help them to enter this very special category, ‘young professional chef/catering student’, we need to recognise our young chefs of tomorrow.”

The awards are easy to enter, and there are some top tips on what the judges will be looking for to help people complete their nominations. The award categories, how to enter, and more details, can be viewed by clicking here.
