A GUISBOROUGH schoolboy has been elected to the national Youth Parliament.
Henry Wain, 14, from Laurence Jackson School, will represent Redcar and Cleveland in the Youth Parliament, which provides opportunities for 11 to 18-year-olds to bring about social change through meaningful representation and campaigning.
Joseph Burt from the Sacred Heart Secondary School, Redcar, was elected as Henry's deputy.
A spokesperson for Laurence Jackson School said: “We are incredibly proud of this achievement and wish him good luck in his new role. We look forward to seeing him represent the young people of our area and raise issues which matter to them. As Henry passionately campaigned 'together we can make a difference'. Now the hard work begins.”
Back in October, Henry visited MP for Middlesbrough and South East Cleveland, Simon Clarke, at one of his constituency surgeries in Guisborough.
Mr Clarke said: “It was fantastic to meet someone so young taking an active interest in politics. I spoke to him about my role as an MP and encouraged him to get involved with UK Parliament Week. Now he's representing his area in the Youth Parliament.”
There are currently about 600 members of the Youth Parliament, including deputies, across the UK.
