THE finalists have been announced for the 2022 Flavours of Herriot Country Awards – and readers of the Darlington & Stockton Times will once again have the chance to vote in one category.

After an enforced break due to Covid, the ninth staging of the awards, which celebrate excellence in the food and drink businesses in Herriot Country, covering Richmondshire and Hambleton, will take place at Solberge Hall, Newby Wiske, Northallerton, on Monday, May 9.

Irene Myers, chair of the Flavours of Herriot Country Awards, said: “It goes without saying that we have all had a very difficult and demanding couple of years, but despite this, there has been such an incredibly positive response this year, made possible by all the entries we’ve had from the dedicated food and drink businesses.

“The number of entries far exceeded all expectations, and were of such a high standard, with incredibly positive stories of survival, diversification, innovation and sheer determination, and many new businesses that braved their way through unprecedented times.

“Difficult choices had to be made to choose the entries that made it through to the finals. And now the task ahead for Susie Brindley, chair of judges, and her team of highly respected food and drink experts will not be an easy one.

“The team will be out and about, tasting, testing, and making incredibly hard decisions to find the winners of the Flavours of Herriot Country Awards 2022.”

The awards, which start with a welcome reception at 11am, will be hosted by BBC Radio York’s Ellie Fiorentini, and the guest speaker will be D&S Times’ editor, Hannah Chapman.

Tickets cost £25, and can be booked by clicking here.
