Kings of swing the Swale Valley Stompers raised £3,375 when they joined forces with the Wensleydale Railway to stage a jazz train.
The group which has been playing and raising money for charity for over 45 years raised the cash for Macmillan Cancer Support. Passengers were transported from Osmotherley to the railway at Leeming Bar and invited to bring their picnics for the special trip. Raffles and an auction of promises helped them raise the cash.
Swale Valley founder member Peter Edmonds revealed the jazz train could be one of the group's final events, they have raised many thousands of pounds over the years for charity, appearing over 1,000 times at their favourite pub the Queen Catherine in Osmotherley .
“The Jazz Train was a great event leaving from Osmotherley and then arriving at the Wensleydale Railway, there was lots of singing. We really would like to thank everyone who supported us with the raffle and the auction of promises and particularly the Wensleydale Railway who have been very good to us over the years and looked after us extremely well.”
