FRIENDS of the Earth will attempt to build a greenhouse out of used plastic bottles at Darlington's Green Fair on Sunday.
The environment group has made an appeal for residents to bring clear plastic bottles to Sunday's event, held in South Park between 12noon and 4pm.
The group has been boosted by a local firm's donation of wood for the frame of the structure and hope to hand-over the greenhouse project to a school to finish.
Kendra Ullyart, co-ordinator of Darlington's Friends of the Earth, said the group needed 1,500 bottles to build the greenhouse.
"It's about promoting the different ways of recycling and reusing items which would normally be put in the bin.
Entry is free to Sunday's event, which will also feature representatives from The Ramblers' Association, Darlington Wildlife Group and the Energy Savings Trust.
Young visitors to the fair will be invited to take part in arts and crafts activities including making recycled jewellery and mini-beasts, as well having the opportunity to plant some seeds.
Veronica Copeland, Darlington Borough Council's cabinet member for sustainable environment and climate change, said: "The Green Fair will have lots of new ideas for people to think about as well as fun activities for visitors of all ages."
