VULNERABLE and destitute youngsters from India were given a day out to remember last week, when they paid a visit to a Yorkshire theme park.
The group of 30, aged between eight and 14, were from Maher - a refuge for battered women and children in Pune, India.
As part of their holiday, which is supported by Friends of Maher (UK), Girl Guiding North East and Soropimist International of York, they visited Lightwater Valley, near Ripon.
Rosemarie Temple, of Maher UK, said: "The whole purpose of the visit is to create awareness and a better understanding of the work of Maher as an organisation.
"It's also a chance for the children to experience a different culture and way of life - none of them has ever travelled or left their home village in their lives.
"We decided to bring the children to the theme park as it is an opportunity to have some fun. To see their faces light up and laugh all day is fantastic. This is a day they will never forget."
Ashley Young, marketing manager at Lightwater Valley, added: "We were very happy to host a day out for the children.
"This is a great place where they can have great fun in a safe and welcoming environment."
