AN AWARD-WINNING undertaker has claimed the title of England's best funeral planner.
It is the second year in a row that John Whitehouse, of Whitehouse Funeral Service in West Auckland Road, Darlington, has won the national award.
He was presented with the trophy by Golden Charter, Britain's leading independent funeral plan provider, at an award ceremony in Wales.
Ronnie Wayte, director of Golden Charter, said the award recognises Mr Whitehouse's dedication and commitment in providing an outstanding service to the community.
Mr Whitehouse was chosen from more than 1,400 other funeral businesses.
He said: "I am absolutely delighted to receive this award - it's just like winning an Oscar.
"The award pays tribute to all the hard work put into the business by my family and the dedication and professionalism of the staff."
