A charity concert will raise money for the horse racing industry and a North Yorkshire foodbank.
Charity Brass, with support from Malton Mayor Ian Conlan, will be putting on an early Christmas concert on Saturday, November 26, at 7pm in St Michael’s Church in Malton Marketplace, with proceeds divided between Racing Welfare and Ryedale Community Foodbank.
Ian Conlan, Malton Mayor, said: “I shared Racing Welfare’s sadness that they lost their Open Stables Day in September during the mourning period for the late Queen Elizabeth.
"So I determined to lend my support to their work supporting the physical and mental health of all those who work in the horse racing industry, often young and working away from their families, by meeting the costs of this concert out of the Mayor’s allowance.

"Charity Brass have also kindly donated their time and skills for free. This means that every penny of proceeds from ticket sales, raffle and refreshments will go to these two excellent charities that are so important for vulnerable people in our local community.
"To make sure this is an inclusive community event, we will not turn anyone away on grounds of cost, so we are asking for a suggested donation of £5 a ticket for those who can afford that.
"I am also very much looking forward to hearing Charity Brass who will be putting on a varied, engaging and popular programme, with perhaps a hint of audience participation, and include Tim, our very own council’s deputy clerk on trombone.”
Di Keal, from Ryedale Community Foodbank said: "We are very grateful to the Mayor of Malton for organising this concert and donating to Ryedale Community Foodbank.
"Many people are facing a difficult winter due to the cost of living crisis and skyrocketing fuel prices.
"We have already seen demand for food aid rise in the past couple of months - every penny raised will go to help people in Ryedale feed their families when they need our support."
Tickets can be ordered in advance from Malton Town Council (telephone 01653-609888), Racing Welfare (01653-696869), or on the door on the night.
