Rotarians from Northallerton had a surprise encounter with their MP – and Prime Minister – Rishi Sunak during a visit to Westminster.
The group from the Rotary Club of Northallerton Mowbray toured the Houses of Parliament with club member Peter Gibson, MP for Darlington.
Mr Gibson also organised a visit to Downing Street where the group was met on the steps of No 10 by Mr Sunak.
Richmond MP Mr Sunak, who is an honorary member of the Northallerton Mowbray club, took a break from his Prime Minister’s schedule to chat to members.
Club president Robert Williamson said: “It was a wonderful surprise for our members and thanks to Peter Gibson for making it possible. We were very grateful that Mr Sunak took time out of his busy day to greet us.”
Mr Sunak said he was delighted to be visited by Rotary club members.
“Rotarians do so many great things for our communities, in Northallerton and all over the world,” he said. “So it was fantastic to welcome them to Downing Street and hear about the exciting day they were having in Westminster.”
During the visit, Mr Sunak was presented with a Yorkshire rose, handcrafted in stained glass by a member of the visiting group, Christine Robinson of Danby Wiske.
