Villagers are branching out into extended celebrations for the festive season this year with a Christmas tree trail and competition.
Residents in Exelby, near Bedale have been invited to get involved in the village's first Christmas Tree Festival with some interesting alternative approaches to the traditional design.
Between December 12 and 18 residents are displaying their themed trees in gardens or windows with 19 trees on display across the tiny village.
Trees which will be on show include; Snowman’s Spare parts Tree, Gerry-Ome-Tree, Tree Surgeon, Candy Bag Tree, Christmas at the Ski Lodge. Tudorwood Ladder Tree and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.
Residents are being given a map of the trees and a voting slip so they can choose their three favourites. The winners are being announced immediately after the customery carols around the Christmas tree event which is held on the village green, next door to the Green Dragon community pub at 6pm on Sunday, December 18. Bedale Band will be accompanying the singing.
