Residents in Northallerton are being invited to take part in a community action day next week.

North Yorkshire Police, Broadacres Housing Association and Northallerton Town Council are behind the initiative and have invited local agencies to the event.

There will be a large "one stop shop" for advice within the town hall on the High Street from 10pm to 4pm on Wednesday, February 15.

Residents of all ages are being urged to attend and share their views, which organisers say will help shape how services are delivered in the town and surrounding areas over the next 12 months.

Police and other organisations will also be taking part in high visibility patrols and visiting residents in the community.

Services on offer include:

A chance for residents to meet their police teams and other agencies who provide local services and talk about issues affecting them.

Crime prevention advice and information on how the community can help police address antisocial behaviour.

A property marking session, which will be held at police HQ, Alverton Court.

Wellbeing visits to vulnerable residents, including those who may find it harder to attend the event in person.

A tidy-up of estates, with skips provided by Broadacres.

Advice on warm space initiatives to help cut the cost of heating homes.

Financial advice available in Northallerton Town Hall.

Organisations taking part in the day include: North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, North Yorkshire Horizons, Northallerton Town Council, Citizens Advice, Trading Standards, MIND, North Yorkshire Youth, Waste and Street Scene, Hambleton Community Action, Carers Plus, IDAS; as well as North Yorkshire Police and Broadacres.

Acting Inspector Chris Hughes, of the Neighbourhood Policing Team, said it is going to be a large event. "We want to listen to what residents are saying and be able to give them guidance and support to access the services they need, including the most vulnerable in the community," he said. "The day is about building community relationships, making a positive difference and gaining further insights into what matters to the people of Northallerton.

“Our commitment is that the feedback from residents will then influence our services and priorities over the next 12 months.”
