A couple have been handed a new award after their popular County Durham holiday let after receiving exceptional feedback from guests.
Helen and Richard Teward, owners of the West Reins holiday cottage in County Durham, have been recognised in an awards scheme by lettings agency, Sykes Holiday Cottages.
The Sykes Star award, which celebrates standout owners of holiday stays, was given to the pair after their home received rave reviews from guests.
The getaway, which is located on the outskirts of Middleton-in-Teesdale, boasts impressive views of the Yorkshire Dales, and was converted from a stone stable into a holiday let by Helen and Richard back in April 2020.
Speaking on the award, Richard and Helen said: “We’re beyond proud to have been recognised as a Sykes Star.
"Every piece of positive feedback from our visitors means a lot to us so it’s extra special to have been given this title to acknowledge that.
“We devoted a lot of love and care to the conversion of West Reins during the pandemic and it’s very rewarding to see our hard work pay off now that the property is open to holidaymakers.
“We’d like to thank everyone who takes the time to leave us such lovely feedback for this award, but also Sykes who have helped us every step of the way with our holiday let experience.”
The duo cited the area's charming shops, cafes, and pubs as a key reason so many 'staycationers' picked their home.
Over the years, West Reins has become a favourite for those looking to escape to the countryside.
They said guests often point out how tidy and well-equipped the property is, together with how welcoming and accommodating they are as hosts.
The Sykes Stars programme aims to recognise holiday homeowners from across the UK that have achieved glowing feedback scores in the last 12 months from guests.
To be eligible to receive an award, owners must get consistent perfect feedback throughout the year.
Bev Dumbleton, chief operating officer at Sykes Holiday Cottages, said: “These awards allow us to showcase the best of the best when it comes to guest feedback, with the commitment and hard work of our Sykes owners never going unnoticed.”
“Its owners like Helen and Richard that make Britain’s staycation market the success it is today and their passion for holiday letting has led to some unforgettable breaks for their guests.
“With County Durham being a real hotspot for staycationers in the UK, we’ve seen many new holiday let owners come onboard recently. Hopefully they’ll soon be on our Sykes Stars list too!”
