Darlington South Park fireworks to return in November 2023

The South Park fireworks display made an explosive comeback in November for the first time in 11 years with almost 20,000 people attending.

It has been announced that the free event, which also played host to a quiet display for kids, street food stalls and light performers, will return on Saturday November 4, 2023.

Jonathan Dulston, Darlington council leader, said: “I am delighted that the return of the South Park firework was such a success. There was a real sense of community with people from across the town coming together for a fun, safe event.

“A large community display like ours reduces the personal use of fireworks which is safer for everyone and also reduces the impact on pet owners and other residents.

“I can’t wait to share with everyone what we have planned for this year – it will be another great, family friendly event to bring everyone together.”

The 2022 event was restricted to Darlington residents only with those wishing to attend having to provide proof of address to collect an entry wristband.

Some residents were left disappointed due to huge demand, with all wristbands selling out in less than five days.

Bosses say more details about this year’s event will be announced in due course.

Lee Aspery, community safety and arson reduction manager at County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service said: “We would always encourage people to attend organised firework displays.

“The council’s display was certainly safer and offered greater value for money to families than buying fireworks for a home display.”
