Northern Lights displays captured across North Yorkshire

The Northern Lights, or aurora as they are also known, could be seen across North Yorkshire throughout the night.

Astronomy expert and aurora enthusiast Nicole Carr headed out to capture the displays.

Nicole co-runs Scarborough based astronomy/astrophotography business Astro Dog with her partner, Simon Scott, and is regularly on the lookout for these displays.

She photographed the displays from Dalby Forest at 11.25pm yesterday (March 23) using her mobile phone, before heading to the coast to capture the displays in Scarborough from Johnnos Field at 3.20am this morning (March 24) using a mirrorless camera.

Astro Dog regularly hold star gazing events in Dalby Forest.

These events include guided tours, and the chance for visitors to use the team’s telescopes for a closer look at the night sky.

There is also an immersive 360 degree planetarium dome used to teach guests about the history of astronomy.

Astro Dog also issue ‘aurora alerts’ from its Facebook page - warning followers when a display is likely to take place.

Glenn Kershaw was also out and captured the displays over Ebberston.

He was in search of the aurora from midnight until 3.30am, and said the best displays appeared at around 3.15am.
