Closed Vale of Mowbray pork pie factory on BBC's Inside the Factory

The Vale of Mowbray pork pie factory in Leeming Bar was the subject of the Gregg Wallace show on Tuesday taking viewers behind the scenes where the famous snacks were made since 1928.

But viewers notied that the factory closed in September 2022 bringing the loss of 200 jobs.

It came just months after a major £4m expansion into a new scotch egg production line.

The factory closed its doors in late September when administrators were called in after almost a century of pie making.

At the time administrators said the business, which was opened as a brewery in 1795, had experienced “significant financial challenges” in recent years due to rising raw material input prices, increasing energy costs and sector-wide recruitment challenges.

Administrators FRP said that they had secured a buyer for both Vale of Mowbray factories on the Leeming Bar site, near Bedale - and a buyer had also been found for the pork pie and scotch egg production machinery.

In March it was revealed that rival pork pie producers Compleat Foods which make Classic Pork Pies and Melton Mowbray Pies had bought the site.

The BBC show sees Masterchef host Gregg Wallace visit factories across the country revealing their inside secrets.
