A themed bake-off will be held in Darlington’s Market Place, marking the coronation of King Charles III.
The bake-off, hosted by Darlington Borough Council, will take place on May 6 and is open to all ages.
Hopefuls will be judged by professional cooks and bakers local to Darlington for everything from creativity to skill.
Professional cooks and bakers from local businesses will be picking the winning cakes in the following categories:
Professionals – for those who have a business selling cakes; adult 18 years and above; 13 to 17 years; eight to12 years (cupcakes); under eight years (cupcakes).
There will be a first, second and third prize in each category.
Alex Nicholson, town centre partnership and events manager, said: “We are looking forward to seeing and tasting some great coronation cakes.
“I hope people of all ages and skills will get involved. It’s going to be a fun packed weekend.”
Those wishing to throw their chef’s hat in the ring must fill in an entry form to be returned before April 27 and pay the £2 entry fee.
Bakers then must bring their coronation themed masterpiece to the marquee in the Market Square by May 5, where it will be judged on its theme, originality and design, and its overall visual impact.
On the day, families are also invited to take part in sustainable crafts and watch live entertainment including from Britain’s Got Talent’s Soldiers of Swing.
King Charles's Coronation will then be streamed live from Westminster on a big screen in the Market Place for all attendees to enjoy.
