Continuing its commitment to developing green space in and around Northallerton, and following on from the successful nationwide Queen’s Green Canopy initiative last year, Northallerton Town Council has planted a number of fruit trees as a lasting celebration of the coronation of King Charles III.
Mayor, Cllr Phil Eames, who took part in the planting, shares the council's vision of enhanced green space for all residents and visitors. The authority is taking steps to incorporate more perennial planting as a structure for seasonal changes, use peat-free compost and reuse plants where possible.
Cllr Eames said: “I am sure that these two orchards will be a lasting reminder of the coronation of King Charles III, in a way we think that the King would appreciate.”
Whilst looking after a significant number of green spaces itself, including Gardner Court, Applegarth, Bankhead, Bullamoor, planters and hanging baskets on the High Street, areas around the library and working with several allotment sites, Northallerton Town Council said it strongly supports community gardening developments within the town, run by Incredible Edible Northallerton.

A spokesperson said: "These are currently in Applegarth and Cherrycroft, with other areas being identified and the town council is keen to encourage residents to get involved with local community gardening projects.
"Cherrycroft Community Garden has recently received a donation of fruit bushes, plants, sleepers, timber and woodchip and needs more volunteers to keep the garden growing.
