A new website has been launched to support an ancient church in the Yorkshire Dales.
The Friends of Coverham Church hope the website will enable residents of Coverdale and supporters of Holy Trinity Church further afield to stay in touch with events, services and projects.
In partnership with The Churches Conservation Trust, forthcoming events include a production of A Christmas Carol by acclaimed theatre company This is My Theatre, which specialises in performing in historic buildings.
There will also be a concert by Harrogate-based Eurythmia Ensemble later this summer, while a Sustainable Flower Festival is in the planning stages to demonstrate plastic free, foam free and air mile free sustainable flowers for churches and events.
A Trinity Sunday Service given by the Rectors of Middleham on Sunday, June 4 at 11am, accompanied by the Bedale Brass Band, will be attended by the Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire, Johanna Ropner, who will plant Coverdale’s coronation oaks, and refreshments will be served.
The history of Coverham Church dates back to the 12th Century, and can be followed on the website’s timeline created by historian Val Slater, who noted that in the 15th Century attending a service at Coverham could be a dangerous experience, saying: “Almost continually brawls and quarrels broke out amongst the parishioners as they jostled their way forward to see the mystery of the Divine Sacrament.”
