No gimmicks has been the watchword that has helped Masons of Yorkshire reach a decade of producing gin, in one of the toughest ten years for business.
Karl and Cathy Mason launched their business on World Gin Day in 2013 in their hometown of Bedale in North Yorkshire. Despite a devastating fire which wrecked their distillery and ruined huge amounts of stock in 2019 quickly followed by the Covid-19 pandemic which hit many of their dedicated customers they have survived and thrived.
Now employing 24 people at their replacement state of the art facility at Leeming Bar, they've issued a special gin to mark their decade in business.
It was their love of gin that started the whole thing off with an online site for fans which made them believe they could made their own better. They were the first to open in Yorkshire at the start of the gin boom that has swept across the UK and beyond in the past decade.
Now the company exports all over the world, has played host to Prime Ministers and celebrities and received over 180 awards, as well as receiving invitations to Buckingham Palace.
Karl Mason, Co-Founder said: “A lot of the gins on the market today are not really gin, they are just flavoured alcohol, claiming to be gin to cash in on the gin boom. We take a different approach, we never went pink.
"We distil our gins with the juniper and other botanicals for a pure, authentic taste: we never add any flavour that hasn’t been distilled. We call this the Masons way, with no gimmicks, no shortcuts and absolutely no compromises. Simply the purest and most delicious gin, made properly. ”
He said their ten year anniversary gin celebreates the plant that started it all, juniper. "It's crafted to be juniper rich, to share with the gin aficionados and gin lovers out there that have supported the brand.
"In addition to the juniper, the gin also features other key botanicals such as coriander, fresh lime, bay leaf, and Szechuan pepper. These botanicals add complexity to the gin, making it a well-rounded and delicious spirit.
"The gin features two different varieties of juniper, distilled three ways. It's bottled at 52 per cent alcohol by volume, 10 per cent higher in ABV than the Masons of Yorkshire Original Edition.
"This is a punchy flavour fitting for a 10th anniversary celebration and the perfect strength to deliver a juniper hit. On our tenth anniversary we just want to say thankyou to all our supporters and customers."
