Eleven northern authors toured six independent bookshops on Saturday to promote children’s reading.
The Great North Author Tour, inspired by Stockton bookshop owner, Richard Drake, in his fourth year as promoter, set off from Whitley Bay early in the morning, then moved onto Saltburn, Stockton, Leyburn, and Thirsk, before ending in Ripon late in the afternoon.
Thirsk’s White Rose Bookshop happily hosted a brief visit and provided much-needed refreshments. Keen parents and curious children were able to talk with their favourite authors, get books signed and explore more books written by newer authors.
The authors were Cath Howe, Dan Smith, Tom Vaughn, Lorraine Gregory, James Nicol, Lisette Auton, Beth Walker, James Harris, Annalise Avery, Gabrielle Kent and Andy Ruffell.
