The idea of tackling a classic long-distance walk to raise charity funds has turned into a business-wide fitness challenge for a building firm.
Staff at Les Race Builders, based in Welbury, near Northallerton, decided to take on the Lyke Wake Walk in aid of Prostate Cancer UK, after seeing family members affected by the disease.
A team from the firm will walk the 40-mile route from Osmotherley to Ravenscar on Saturday, July 15, with the aim being to complete it within 24 hours.
Inspired by the walkers, another team member is completing 40 miles of swimming, while as part of the training, June was declared “iron man month” with staff completing the equivalent of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and a 26.2 mile walk or run as many times over as possible.
A spokesperson for the firm said: “Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the UK, with one in eight men being affected. It kills dads, partners, sons, brothers, grandads, uncles and friends.
“However it can be treated successfully and a number of our dads have had or are undergoing treatment. We want to raise as much money as we can so that more men don't become a statistic.”
