Darlington Beekeepers Association (DBKA) is hosting an open day on Saturday, September 9.
The session runs from 2pm until 4pm at the Denes Apiary, off Widdowfield Street, Darlington,
Mayor of Darlington, Councillor Jan Cossins, will be attending and will officially open the apiary's new Welfare Unit.
This new unit, which includes an accessible toilet, is the first stage of the DBKA plan to have an education centre focused on pollinators including honeybees on the old bowling green, and a teaching resource for Darlington and the wider North East.
A DBKA spokesperson said: "Our team there will introduce members of the public to the fascinating experience of beekeeping.
"There are beehives to view safely, as well as demonstration hives. There will be different types of honey for sale along with beeswax products. Refreshments will be available for you to enjoy as you chat to DBKA members about their intriguing hobby and the importance of the honey bee's role in the environment. Everybody is welcome."
