A heartfelt move to support charity and bring a smile to residents' faces has been a success in Northallerton.

Staff at the Royal Mail Delivery Office in Northallerton have been fundraising for the British Heart Foundation, and trying to think of new ways to raise awareness of its work helping to save lives.

Nicki Hall, who works in the delivery office, behind the now-closed Post Office in the High Street, said she had put out an appeal to the local yarn bombers to see if anyone wanted to knit hearts in honour of the British Heart Foundation.

She said: “The idea was to make a new postbox topper for our beautiful postbox outside our office. We had so many kind people up and down the country donating knitted hearts to us so that we could make a topper.

“Hours of work and love has gone into making this wonderful postbox topper. Alongside that Alverton Community Primary school children and staff also helped us out with the most beautiful pictures of hearts for our window display behind the postbox.

“With the help of Lisa Rowntree, the manager of the the British Heart Foundation charity shop in Northallerton, we unveiled our surprise to an audience in the town, with staff and children from the school who came down to show off their lovely work to the public.

“We've had so many people come to visit the display of hearts and seeing the smiles on their faces really makes all the hard work worth it. Our display in honour of the charity is definitely made with 100 per cent love.”
