An historic visitor attraction has been recognised as the country's favourite seaside destination.
Saltburn Cliff Tramway has been named the country’s favourite seaside place and experience in the Seaside Heritage Network’s first ever “Bucket and Spade” list.
The award has been voted for by members of the public and representatives from Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council collected the award on Monday, September 11.
The tramway beat off competition from Blackpool Tower and Morecambe Winter Gardens to win the prize.

Simon Clarke, MP for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland, congratulated the tramway team adding the award was really well-deserved.
He said: "Great news for Saltburn!
"I’m delighted at the news that the Saltburn Cliff Tramway has beaten off stiff seaside competition, including the Blackpool Tower and Morecambe Winter Gardens, to be crowned the country’s favourite seaside place and experience in the Seaside Heritage Network’s first ever annual top ten “Bucket and Spade” list."
"The award, voted for by members of the public, is really well deserved and big congratulations are due to all the dedicated team who work so hard to keep the 1884 cliff lift running, bringing pleasure to residents and visitors alike."

The tramway, built in 1884, was originally constructed to help Victorian holidaymakers up and down the steep incline between beach and town.
The structure has since become an iconic mainstay of the beachfront and a tourist attraction in itself.
Residents reacted to the news with joy and pride at the news of the award.
