The recently-formed Guisborough Eco Group held a sewing repair café and saved about 30 items of clothing from going to waste.

The event took place at Guisborough Methodist Church Hall on Saturday. More than 30 customers brought various garments to stitch or repair at no cost, although donations were invited to cover the hall hire fee.

Eco Group members fixed items from coats to dresses, jeans and jumpers, even a toy unicorn, which now lives to fight another day.

In just two hours a team armed with sewing machines and plenty of thread worked through the garments, sustained by a steady supply of refreshments from the weekly café which runs every Saturday in the hall.

Jemma Joy of Guisborough Eco Group thanked the team from Climate Action Stokesley and Villages who helped to make it happen. Also present were the team from Kids Against Weed-Killer to help and speak to people outside about their campaign to stop councils using glyphosate weedkiller.
