A swimming club in Northallerton is celebrating after successfully applying for funding to grow its team of coaches.
Northallerton Amateur Swimming Club has received a donation of £4,000 from Persimmon after making an application to the housebuilder’s Community Champions initiative.
Head coach Greg Ient hosted representatives from Persimmon and North Yorkshire Councillor Steve Watson to formally take receipt of a cheque for £4,000.
The club, which is based at Northallerton Leisure Centre, has enjoyed plenty of success in recent years with members qualifying for regional and national level competitions.
Ient said: "We are thrilled to have received this donation. The generous support Persimmon has provided will enable the coaching team to grow in number and fund qualifications to support the next generation of swimmers.”
Cllr Watson, who represents Northallerton North and Brompton, said: “It's great to see Persimmon getting involved in the communities they are working within. I am sure this will make a huge difference to the swimming club nurturing and developing our area's talented young swimmers.”
Sean Taylor, managing director at Persimmon Teesside, added: “It was great to visit Northallerton Amateur Swimming Club recently to learn more about the club.
“Our Kingsbrook development is just around the corner from the club, so it’s fantastic to support a local cause that is doing such great work for local young people. I wish the club all the very best for the future and hope they achieve even more success.”
