The North East will pay its respects and remember the sacrifices of servicemen and women in a two-minute silence this Remembrance Day.
Observed every year since 1919, Remembrance or Armistice Day is marked on the anniversary of the end of World War I on November 11.
Remembrance Sunday falls on the second Sunday of November which means that it will be observed on November 12.

Services are being planned across the region to commemorate the contribution of the Armed Forces and their families from Britain and the Commonwealth.
Here are the Remembrance events happening on Sunday:
Darlington
The official Service of Remembrance will be held in Holy Trinity Church, Woodland Road, starting at 10am on Sunday, November 12.
Immediately after, the Remembrance parade will form on Vane Terrace and then march, via Woodland Road and Hollyhurst Road, to the further Act of Remembrance at the Cenotaph in the grounds of Darlington Memorial Hospital.
This will incorporate the 11am two minutes' silence and will be followed by the usual laying of wreaths. There will be a service of Remembrance at the West Cemetery War Graves, Carmel Road North, at 2.30pm
Barnard Castle
A service at St Mary’s Parish Church will start promptly at 10.58am on Sunday, November 12.
The congregation must be seated in church by 10.40 am, at the latest, to allow the two minute silence to be observed at 11am.
Following the service, the parade marshal will lead the annual parade along Newgate to the war memorial in the grounds of The Bowes Museum for a further Act of Remembrance and laying of wreaths, starting at approximately 11.50am.
Middlesbrough
Middlesbrough Mayor Chris Cooke will attend the town’s 2023 Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service on Sunday, November 12.
The Civic Party and Parade will form up at 10.30am to march up to the Cenotaph for the Service, which should finish at around 12.30pm.
The wooden Tommy figures will again be in place in the flower beds outside the Dorman Museum, and the Service will be livestreamed via the Council’s Facebook page.
Members of the public are advised that the Cenotaph gates to Albert Park will be closed for the duration of the service, with access available via other entrances.
Stockton
Stockton Parish Church will hold its usual contemporary Sunday Service at 9.30am with a remembrance theme, ending with the Act of Remembrance at the Cenotaph from 10.45am onwards.
For those attending the Cenotaph service only, you are advised to assemble at the Cenotaph by 10.35am.
A parade will march up the High Street from 10.35am and be in position at the Cenotaph for the outside service at 10.45am. The parade will then march back down the High Street with the Mayor, Vice Lord Lieutenant of Durham and Deputy Lieutenant of North Yorkshire taking the salute.
Thornaby
A parade starts at 10.30am with a service to be held at the Cenotaph on Acklam Road at 10.45am.
The Deputy Mayor, Members of the Thornaby Branch of the Royal British Legion and members of the public will assemble at the car park in Cranworth Street off Westbury Street at 10am.
Billingham
A parade will assemble in the car park of The Salutation pub, on West Road, from 10am. At 10.30am the parade will move off for a service at the Cenotaph on Station Road at 10.50am, before proceeding back to The Salutation at 11.30am.
Yarm
A service will be held in the Parish Church, West Street, at 9.30am, followed by a short service at the War Memorial then a small procession along the High Street to Yarm School.
Egglescliffe
A service will be held at Egglescliffe Parish Church (St John the Baptist) on Butts Lane at 10am, followed by a procession to Egglescliffe War Memorial at 10.45am.
Ingleby Barwick
A service starts at 10am at St. Francis of Assisi Church on Barwick Lane, leaving the church for the Act of Remembrance at the Memorial Stone at 11am.
Kirklevington
The Church of St. Martin and St. Hilary on Forest Lane will hold a service at 10.15am followed by a two minutes’ silence.
Preston-on-Tees
A service which will be held at All Saints’ Church on Dunattor Avenue at 9.45am. The service will then move to the nearby War Memorial for the two-minute silence at 11am.
Port Clarence
A short service will be held at the Cenotaph on Port Clarence Road at 3pm followed by the laying of wreaths.
Stillington
A service will be held at Stillington Cenotaph on Messines Lane at 12 noon.
Wolviston
A service will be held in St Peter’s Church on West Hartlepool Road at 10.15am, with a procession to the War Memorial for the laying of the wreath at 10.45am.
Norton
An Armistice Day service will be held on Saturday 11 November at St Mary’s Church, Norton Village Green, from 10.40am including an Act of Remembrance and laying of wreaths.
On Sunday, November 12, Morning Worship and the Act of Remembrance will be held in St Mary’s from 10.30am.
Hartlepool
Two services will take place in Hartlepool this weekend to mark Remembrance Sunday.
Hartlepool Borough Council will host its two annual services at 11am on Sunday (November 12th) – one at Victory Square in the town centre and the other at the Headland War Memorial in Redheugh Gardens.
The Victory Square service will be conducted by Reverend Andrew Craig and will be attended by Councillor Brian Cowie, the Deputy Ceremonial Mayor of Hartlepool and the Council’s Armed Forces Champion; the Leader of the Council, Councillor Mike Young; Deputy Lieutenant of County Durham Sir Ron Norman OBE, High Sheriff of County Durham Anne Elliott and Denise McGuckin, Managing Director of Hartlepool Borough Council.
A parade will leave the Market Square (to the rear of York Road) at 10.45am. Following the service, there will be a march past and salute of the Victory Square war memorial.
The Headland service will be conducted by Reverend Steve Edge of St Hilda’s Church and will be attended by the Ceremonial Mayor of Hartlepool, Councillor Shane Moore, Councillor Jim Lindridge and Deputy Lieutenant of County Durham Alistair Arkley CBE.
A parade will leave Church Walk at 10.44am and proceed to the Headland War Memorial via Prissick Street and Cliff Terrace. Following the service, the parade will perform a march past and salute the memorial.
At both services, there will be an opportunity for members of the public to lay wreaths.
Durham Cathedral
Sunday, November 12, 2023 - 10:15am. This service remembers those who have given their lives in service of their country, and those serving who put their lives at risk today, through spoken word and music from the Cathedral Choir. The Dean of Durham, the Very Revd Dr Philip Plyming, will be preaching this service.
Bedale
St Gregory’s Church, 9.15am, Parish Communion and 10.45am, Act of Remembrance and service on Sunday, November 12.
Brompton (Northallerton)
Remembrance service at 10am on Sunday, November 12 at Brompton Methodist Church led by Rev Arthur Harbottle, followed by a parade to the Lych Gate for one minute’s silence at 11am. Remembrance Day service at 4pm at St Thomas’ Church led by Rev Jonathan Cooper.
Danby Wiske
Remembrance Sunday service at 10.45am in the village church, including the Act of Remembrance at the war memorial inside the church on Sunday, November 12. The collection will be donated to Combat Stress.
Hutton Rudby
Service of Remembrance at All Saints’ Church at 10.15am, and at 11am, there will be a two-minute silence and service of Remembrance at the war memorial on Sunday, November 12.
Leyburn
Service of Remembrance will start at 10.45am at the war memorial and then continues in Leyburn Methodist Chapel on Sunday, November 12.
Northallerton
Remembrance Sunday service and parade hosted by All Saints Church, RAF Leeming, and Northallerton Town Council. All are welcome to join the 10am service at All Saints with 11am Act of Remembrance at the Cenotaph followed by a short parade on Sunday, November 12.
A Festival of Remembrance concert at The Forum will bring together the Festival Concert Band and Crash Bang Wallop Youth Theatre Singers. Proceeds from the concert, at 7pm on Sunday, go to the Ben Hyde Memorial Trust and the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. See forumnorthallerton.org.uk.
Reeth
There will be a short service of Remembrance at the war memorial on the green at10.45am on Saturday, November 11.
On Remembrance Sunday the Swaledale parade will leave the green at 2pm for a service of remembrance at St Andrew’s, Grinton, at 2.30pm.
A bus will be provided for anyone not wishing to walk to the service and also for the return journey to the memorial hall where tea will be served.
Richmond
The parade will leave the Town Hall at 9.40am on Sunday for the service at St Mary’s Church at 10am followed by wreath-laying and two-minute silence in the Friary Gardens at 11am.
Ripon
A service will be held in Ripon Spa Gardens from 10.45am. It will include two minutes’ silence and the laying of wreaths, followed by the usual parade. A civic service of remembrance will then be held in Ripon Cathedral from 11.40am to 1pm on Sunday, November 12.
Stokesley
The Remembrance Sunday service at the Methodist Church will be led by Rev Andrew Robinson at the earlier time of 10am on Sunday, November 12. The Parish Church will host a Remembrance Service at 10am. Both are followed by a parade to the war memorial for the laying of wreaths and two-minute silence at 11am.
Spennymoor
Sunday, November 12, 10am in the Town Hall, Spennymoor.
Following the service at 10.45am, people are invited to assemble at the front of the Town Hall to march to the War Memorial.
Organisations/individuals laying a wreath are requested to contact the Town Council by noon on Thursday, November 9 with their details if they want to be called out during the service.
Any organisation/individual who does not register will have the opportunity to lay their wreath at the end of the service.
Peterlee
Peterlee Remembrance Parade & Service will be held on Sunday, November 12, 2023, with people meeting at Peterlee Central Club, Surtees Road, at 10am if participating in the Parade to St. Cuthbert's Church, Peterlee. The parade will leave at 10.30am, followed by a service.
Newton Aycliffe
The Remembrance Day Parade and Service will commence at 10.45am, with the march to St. Clare’s Church.
A short service will be held outside of the Church for the observance of the two-minute silence and wreath laying ceremony.
St. Clare’s Church will hold a Service prior to the Parade Assembling to return down Stephenson Way for the Salute and March Past.
Beamish
The museum will also be observing Remembrance Day on Saturday, November 11 with a site-wide two-minute silence at 11am.

Eston
One wreath to be laid on behalf of the Council by Cllr Stephen Martin. The parade will form at the California Youth Centre, leaving at 10.40am to arrived at the War Memorial in Eston Square at approximately 10.50am for service and wreath laying. Road closures will be in place on Sunday, November 12.
Grangetown
One wreath is to be laid on behalf of Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council by Councillor Lynn Pallister. Service at St Hilda’s Church at 9am on Sunday, November 12. . Assemble at Argyle Road from approximately10.30am for the procession to the War Memorial for Act of Remembrance and wreath-laying ceremony at 10.50am. Road closures will be in place.
Guisborough
On Sunday, November 12. One wreath to be laid on behalf of Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council by Councillor Lisa Belshaw. The parade forms up in Westgate (starting between Westgate Road and New Road) at 10.30am, for march off at 10.45 am to the War Memorial. After observing the silence, wreaths will be laid and a small service conducted by the Rector of Guisborough. The parade will then reform to march back to Westgate Road Closures will be in place. (wreath-laying will also take place at Roseberry Church at 9am, Upleatham War Memorial at 9.15am and Dunsdale War Memorial at 9.30am).
Lazenby
One wreath to be laid on behalf of Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council by Councillor Chris Massey. Service at 11 am in St Cuthbert’s Parish Church, Wilton, followed by Service of Remembrance and wreath laying ceremony at the War Memorial in Lazenby at approximately 12pm on Sunday, November 12.

Normanby
One wreath to be laid on behalf of Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council by Councillor Curt Pugh. The parade will form up at the Bowling Club from 10.30 am to parade at 10.50am to the War Memorial at Smiths Dock Park for Service and wreath-laying ceremony on Saturday, November 11.
Also on Saturday, 11 November, the Normanby History Group will be holding its Armistice Day Service at the War Memorial (on the corner of High Street and West Street) from 10.45am. Road closures will be in place.
North Skelton
One wreath to be laid on behalf of Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council by Councillor Andrew Oliver. Act of Remembrance and wreath-laying ceremony to take place at the War Memorial at 1pm on Sunday, November 12.
Ormesby

Redcar
The Redcar Branch of the Royal British Legion will hold its Annual Remembrance Day Parade and Service. The parade will form up on Peirson Street (behind the Coatham Social Club) and will march off at approx. 10.45am along Lobster Road, turning onto Coatham Road for the Remembrance service and wreath-laying ceremony at the Cenotaph on Coatham Road at approximately 10.50am on Sunday, November 12.
One wreath to be laid on behalf of Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council by the Mayor, Councillor Malcolm Head. After the service, the parade will reform for the march past and salute, the Deputy Lieutenant, Mayor, Redcar British Legion President and any high-ranking military officer will take the salute. Tea/coffee will be served before the Service at 10am and refreshments afterwards at the Coatham Social Club, Coatham Road, Redcar. (Members and officers of the Council are welcome to attend). Saltburn
