A landslip between Darlington and Newcastle has impacted rail travel between the two destinations, which includes journeys on the East Coast Mainline.

The delays are affecting London North Eastern Railway, CrossCountry and Transpennine Express between York and Newcastle, which also impacts people travelling from Northallerton, Darlington, Durham, and Chester Le Street.

So far this morning, trains have been delayed, cancelled and diverted, due to fewer trains being able to run on all lines.

LNER put out a statement about the incident, which read: "#LNERUpdate Due to a landslip between Darlington and Newcastle, services are subject to delays when passing in the surrounding area.

"Due to a landslip between Darlington and Newcastle, fewer trains are able to run on all lines. As a result, trains may be cancelled, delayed or diverted."

Train companies have since issued guidance to passengers about travelling on other services.
