A banking giant has officially launched its new site in a North East town.
Barclays has today (November 28) launched its Local service at The Civic Centre on Ridley Street in Redcar.
A spokesperson said the service is designed to give easy access to customers with “digital and complex banking needs.”
Staff will be on hand every Monday, Tuesday and Friday, from 9.30am to 12.30pm and 1pm to 4pm, to offer financial support.
Michael Richardson, Barclays deputy customer care director, Yorkshire and Teesside said: “We’re delighted to launch the replace banking service here in Redcar.
“This represents our commitment to customers and the local community who wish to continue to have an in-person banking presence by offering the ability to visit Barclays on their local high street, albeit in a different environment.”
Customers visiting centre will be able to services such as financial reviews, balance requests, open new accounts and have support with digital banking.
The centre is a cashless site, meaning everyday banking transactions will need to be completed at the local Post Office.
Jacob Young, Conservative MP for Redcar, said: "It’s great that Barclays have taken this innovative step to assure a continuation of services for their customers in Redcar.
"Of course, nobody wanted to see our high street branch close but, thanks to the Barclays Local initiative, customers will still be able to receive the face-to-face services they need and the support they require.
"I wish this scheme every success and I hope it reassures customers that Barclays are still here in Redcar to provide the services they need."
NatWest Group announced last week that their branch in Redcar would be closing next year.
